Superficies

The Suriname Civil Code also has rules regarding the ‘superficies’ (opstal). The ‘superficies’refers to buildings and works permanently attached to land, either directly or through incorporation with other buildings or works. The ownership of the building is separate from ownership of the land.  Superficies therefore entails that the owner of the land and the owner of the structure thereon, could be separate (legal or natural) persons.
