A large part of the working population in Suriname is employed on the basis of an employment agreement. Employment law can be found in various labour regulations:
- the Suriname Civil Code;
- separate Labour laws;
- the Personnel Act (Personeelswet) for civil servants (the largest segment of the Surinamese workforce); and
- the minimum hourly wages act.
(Suriname is member of the International Labour Organization (I.L.O.)).
